Seeing the “Visual Vibrato” in Robert Natkin’s “Apollo Series”

September 22, 2014

Los Angeles Modern Auctions (LAMA)

Born in 1930 to a family mired in dysfunction and Depression-era poverty, Robert Natkin (1930-2010) found art to be an escape from the darkness of life, and devoted himself to creating paintings that shimmered with light and color. LAMA is pleased to present #6 (1963), a characteristic work from Natkin’s pivotal Apollo Series, which shows the artist at the height of his achievement. Also on offer is a color lithograph from his Field Mouse series, a work that demonstrates the important influence of Paul Klee upon Natkin.
