Nicholas Nixon, The Brown Sisters, 1975

Los Angeles Modern Auctions (LAMA) is pleased to present a work by Nicholas Nixon, a 1975 photograph from The Brown Sisters series. His best-known work, The Brown Sisters is comprised of black-and-white portraits of his wife Bebe and her three sisters. Nixon has taken a photo of them every year since 1975. The ongoing series is a poignant documentation of family, time, aging, and love. Nixon says, “Being an only child, it was really gratifying and lovely to be embraced by this family . . . I can feel myself getting old with them. And I’m part of them; they’re part of my love.” This lot, a gelatin silver print, has been in the family since acquiring it directly from the artist.
