September 30, 2018 Modern Art & Design Auction

Ken Price’s career-long investigation of the relationship between interiority and exteriority becomes particularly acute in works like “Groota” (1985), which LAMA is pleased to include in our upcoming September 30, 2018 Modern Art & Design Auction. The tensions between art and craft, interior and exterior, are perfectly articulated in the series of two-piece clay sculptures that Price began working on in the mid-1980s.

Dimitri Hadzi: Form and Balance

April 15, 2013

Internationally recognized American sculptor Dimitri Hadzi (1921-2006) created modern bronze sculptures that evoke classical subjects through a careful interplay of abstract forms and open space. LAMA will be offering one of Hadzi’s large-scale sculptures from the edition of six (the largest work by Hadzi to appear at auction) in the upcoming May 19, 2013 Modern Art & Design Auction. Thera II (1967-68) stands “like a ceremonial object placed on a tripod,” achieving a balance of vertical columns and bulbous masses. Continue reading for more information on Hadzi and his work.

October 6, 2012

At tomorrow’s auction we will see a strong grouping of ceramics, including works by Voulkos and McIntosh.
