Paris Salon Painter Emile Grau-Sala

April 16, 2015

Lot 148, Emile Grau-Sala, Le Paddock,

Los Angeles Modern Auctions (LAMA) is pleased to present two lush oil on canvas paintings by Emile Grau-Sala. Much of the artist’s significant professional period was spent in Paris: he was involved with the Paris Salons, and was associated with the School of Paris “Young Painting” artists. Grau-Sala was influenced by both his contemporaries in France, and painters of older generations, such as Raoul Dufy, and great impressionists, particularly Manet and Renoir. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York holds two Grau-Sala paintings in its collection; one from the 1960s is similarly-themed to Lot 148, Le Paddock (1969), on offer in the May 17 Modern Art & Design Auction.

Jim Shaw and the Vortex of Pop Iconography

February 5, 2015

Lot 122, Jim Shaw Objects of Desire 1989

The art of Jim Shaw (b. 1952) is distilled from the flotsam and jetsam of a quintessential boyhood, the ephemera of American pop, social, and consumer culture. Los Angeles Modern Auctions is pleased to present two works on paper by Shaw in the upcoming March 1, 2015 Modern Art & Design Auction.
