A seminal figure in the history of modern art, the American sculptor John Chamberlain is best known for his use of unconventional materials, a practice that straddled the spheres of Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art, and changed critical thinking on the nature of sculpture. From 1966 into the 1970s, Chamberlain’s material of choice was almost exclusively urethane foam rubber. LAMA is pleased to present Cradle (1985), a urethane foam rubber work from this important segment of Chamberlain’s oeuvre in the October 12, 2014 Modern Art & Design Auction.
