Just In: Jean Arp

March 16, 2017

Los Angeles Modern Auctions (LAMA)

Los Angeles Modern Auctions is pleased to present a sculptural work by the renowned French-German artist Jean Arp, which will be available in the May 21, 2017 Modern Art & Design Auction. Jean Arp was closely connected to some of the most important artists of the twentieth century. Untitled (c. 1960) is an example of the artist’s late sculpture, a small-scale bronze work, over which a golden patina has been applied. Set on a black plinth, it is endowed with a grandeur and formality that belies the revolutionary spirit of the artist’s early work.

A Vocabulary All Her Own: Claire Falkenstein’s “Point as a Set” Sculptures

February 9, 2016

Lot 55 Claire Falkenstein Point as a Set #27 (1976)

Claire Falkenstein is one of the most important and intriguing figures in post-war American art. Drawing on influences as diverse as Einsteinian physics and the French avant-garde, Falkenstein developed an artistic vocabulary all her own. She began her Point as a Set sculptural series in Los Angeles in the early 1960s, marking the beginning of her mature artistic career. On February 21, 2016, LAMA will be offering two significant works from this series dating from the 1970s.

Peter’s Auction Pick of the Day: Surrealist Sculpture

December 11, 2012

Today my pick includes two brooches by Calder and Arp, each gifts from the artists themselves, and both being offered on the market for the first time.
