LAMA’s May 17, 2015 Modern Art & Design Auction was a rousing success with battling bidders, new world record auction prices, and total sales of $3 million. In a week of record-breaking auctions in the modern and contemporary art world, Los Angeles’ premier auction house, Los Angeles Modern Auctions (LAMA) held the final sale of the spring season. LAMA’s May 18, 2014 Modern Art & Design auction achieved strong prices for blue-chip and California modern artists, commensurate with the New York and London sales. Sunday’s auction offered original works and multiples by Warhol, Picasso, Ruscha, and Wesselmann that exceeded pre-sale estimates, while a Hans Wegner desk and organizer set a new auction record for the model, with total auction sales realizing $2 million, selling 110% by value.

In the upcoming May 18, 2014 Modern Art & Design Auction, we are offering seven lots of Hans J. Wegner furniture that were purchased by the consignor on a trip to Copenhagen in 1966. The consigner visited the Johannes Hansen and Illums Bolighus workshops to order some of Wegner’s most enduring designs, including a Papa chair and ottoman, an Executive Swivel chair, a Valet chair, and Peacock chair. These beautiful works represent the height of Scandinavian design: inviting, functional, and timeless.
