A surge in linguistic philosophy that explored the ways in which languages affect their broader cultural systems led to the proliferation of text-heavy throughout the latter half of the 20th century. Los Angeles Modern Auctions is pleased to present a painting by Ed Ruscha, one of the most critically acclaimed artists working today, in our March 5, 2017 Modern Art & Design Auction. This acrylic on linen painting was created in 1994 and depicts a rooster’s silhouette, captured in profile, which takes up most of the picture plane. The rooster is a recurring motif in Ruscha’s work and has been featured in his paintings and prints since the 1970s.

LAMA is pleased to present key lots by two of Los Angeles’s leading contemporary conceptual artists: John Baldessari and Ed Ruscha. Baldessari’s National City Portfolio, the complete suite of eight photographs, and his Two Boats (from Hegel’s Cellar Portfolio) photographs go to auction March 1. Eleven lots by Ed Ruscha, including prints from his ironic Insects Portfolio are also on offer March 1.
