Just In: Harry Bertoia Monotypes

October 27, 2016

Los Angeles Modern Auctions (LAMA)

Los Angeles Modern Auctions is delighted to present to the market a number of monotypes by legendary Italian-American artist and designer Harry Bertoia (1915 – 1978). These unique works will be up for auction in our March 5, 2017 Modern Art & Design Auction. The monotype enabled Bertoia to pursue chance in his work, which he produced by laying printer’s ink on a table, covering this with paper and drawing on the other side, often with his eyes closed. This auction presents an excellent opportunity to acquire a series of unique works by this highly-renowned figure of 20th century art and design.

Ibram Lassaw Jewelry

Ibram Lassaw was a pioneering American abstract sculptor. His expressionistic welded wire-and-alloy pieces presaged the open-form sculptures of later artists. Lassaw would create some 1,000 unique jewelry pieces, mostly pendants, in materials ranging from bronze and copper to gold plate. Lassaw’s work is in the permanent collections of numerous museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Israel Museum, Jerusalem.
