In the upcoming October 13, 2013 Modern Art & Design Auction, LAMA is offering a rare custom lamp from George Washington Maher, the Prairie Style architect and founder of the Chicago Arts and Crafts Society. His commissions include commercial and institutional buildings, as well as numerous homes throughout the Chicago area. In these residences, Maher utilized his motif-rhythm theory to integrate a single flower or geometric shape throughout the interior. This stained glass lamp from the John Rath residence (1907) features a poppy native to the region, the unifying motif found throughout this Chicago home.
