LAMA mourns the loss of envelope-pushing American furniture artist Wendell Castle, who passed away at his home in Scottsville, New York on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the age of 85. Born in Emporia, Kansas in 1932, the highly acclaimed designer and craftsman completely upended traditional distinctions separating the fields of furniture design, sculpture, and fine art over the course of some six decades.

One of the 20th century‚Äôs most iconoclastic artists, Ad Reinhardt devoted himself to the pursuit of pure abstraction. On October 9, LAMA presents an outstanding example from Reinhardt‚Äôs best-known body of work: his all-black or ‚Äúultimate‚ÄĚ paintings, on which he focused during the last ten years of his career. Peter Loughrey, director of LAMA, states “Abstract Painting is one of those mythical creatures. It is enormously rare for anyone in my field to get the chance to sell one. So, this is a career highlight for me, this is the ultimate opportunity and I‚Äôm incredibly proud to have my moment to present one.”

Los Angeles Modern Auctions (LAMA) is pleased to announce the auction of a selection of works by celebrated artist Ed Moses (b.) on October 9, 2016. Moses famously exhibited at the legendary Ferus Gallery in 1957 alongside contemporaries such as Larry Bell, Billy Al Bengston, Robert Irwin and Ed Ruscha. One of the most innovative post-war artists in America, Moses is best known for his experimental approach to painting, which focuses on process and materials. Including two paintings and three works on paper, this is an excellent opportunity to acquire some signature pieces by this iconic figure of 20th century art. Peter Loughrey, Director of Modern Design & Fine Art at LAMA, speaks with the artist about his retrospective at MOCA in the 1990s, his inspirations, and his “secret sauce.”
