George Washington Maher: Rare Stained Glass Lamp

In the upcoming October 13, 2013 Modern Art & Design Auction, LAMA is offering a rare custom lamp from George Washington Maher, the Prairie Style architect and founder of the Chicago Arts and Crafts Society. His commissions include commercial and institutional buildings, as well as numerous homes throughout the Chicago area. In these residences, Maher utilized his motif-rhythm theory to integrate a single flower or geometric shape throughout the interior. This stained glass lamp from the John Rath residence (1907) features a poppy native to the region, the unifying motif found throughout this Chicago home.

International Bidding Drives California Works to New Highs

The May 19, 2013 auction broke world records for a work by Vija Celmins, the highest price achieved at auction for a work on canvas by the artist, and a work by Joe Goode, which set a new world auction record for any work by the artist.

LAMA achieved a new company record for total sales, realizing $3.46 million and selling 120% of the 469 lots by value. Sunday’s auction firmly establishes LAMA’s position as an international marketplace for Modern Art & Design.
