Emerson Woelffer is considered “the grandfather of Los Angeles Modernism” and his works and teachings have influenced generations of West Coast artists. Abstract LA: The Visionary Works of Emerson Woelffer on March 21st presents nearly fifty lots by Woelffer, offered to benefit the scholarship fund at Otis College of Art and Design, where Woelffer taught from 1974 until his retirement in 1989. Spanning Woelffer's career, this selection features paintings in oil and acrylic, as well as mixed-media collage and works on paper, all showcasing how he embraced bold color and form to make abstraction his own.
