Industrial Charm

Michael Rotondi’s Carlson-Reges Residence

These works were designed by Michael Rotondi for the Carlson-Reges Residence, a renovated former Edison Electric substation in Los Angeles’s Lincoln Heights neighborhood. Originally built in 1922, the Art Deco building was renovated by Rotondi’s firm, RoTo Architects, in the 1990s and renamed for the couple who commissioned the project. RoTo Architects describes the completed structure as “an urban-industrial house and gallery, built as a centerpiece within a 20-acre artists’ live-work district, with materials from the the owners’ salvage yard.”
