Considered “the grandfather of Los Angeles Modernism,” Emerson Woelffer had a lasting impact on generations of West Coast artists through his work and teachings. On August 21st, Abstract LA: The Visionary Works of Emerson Woelffer presents nearly fifty lots by Woelffer, offered to benefit the scholarship fund at Otis College of Art and Design, where Woelffer taught from 1974 until his retirement in 1989. Spanning more than four decades of Woelffer's career, this selection features paintings in oil and acrylic, as well as mixed-media collage, all showcasing how he embraced bold color and form to make abstraction his own.
