The present owner of this work acquired it directly from one of the three Carpinteros during a trip to Havana, Cuba. Invited to visit the island by the owner of a prestigious Los Angeles gallery, the collector notes that because Fidel Castro was still alive when they made the trip, there were no public art galleries where art could be purchased—instead artists stored and shared their works from their own homes. At the home of this member of the Carpinteros, the artist retrieved his available works from underneath his bed and the present owner purchased two, in cash.
