Collection includes thirteen blueprints in two rolls and six drawings for the Oceanview residence for Walton J. MacConnell, Spindrift Dr., La Jolla, CA. Signed and dated to four works ‘Richard J. Neutra’. Both rolls of blueprints sold with endpapers with annotations, and one with extensive notes and inscriptions by a member of the Neutra Studio.

Walton J. MacConnell sought an architect for a modern home perched on the ocean in La Jolla, CA, ultimately building with William Kesling to realize the project (as represented by Lot 131, the custom cabinet from the home). Prior to commissioning Kesling, however, MacConnell became close to completing the residence with Richard Neutra, whom had already made plans and blueprints for the house. These drawings illustrate the creative approach to modern seaside living that Neutra envisioned, though ultimately unrealized.

An urban planner by vocation, Aldana has nurtured his fascination with modern design, particularly the strains that emerged in mid-century Southern California, through Esoteric Survey for nearly 15 years. With a desire to share fascinating obscure design figures and document visits to architecture and design sites, he created the blog he named Esoteric Survey in 2009. What first served primarily as a private log for personal reference eventually blossomed into a valuable resource for like-minded design aficionados, and has since taken the form of an immensely popular Instagram account.
