50 Years of Greenpeace

In September of 1971, a group of activists set sail towards Amchitka island, off the coast of Vancouver, in protest of U.S. nuclear arms testing. With little funding or sailing experience, the crew did not reach their destination—but their gesture would become the first major action of the organization now known as Greenpeace. In 2022, the worldwide organization celebrated its 50-year anniversary, a milestone commemorated in the Greenpeace 50 Years portfolio. The series of eight prints was published in an edition of 100 by Counter Editions, and features contributions from Katherine Bernhardt, Billy Childish, Tracy Emin, Eddie Martinez, Cassi Namoda, Peter Saul, Stanley Whitney, and Jonas Wood. One third of the net proceeds were given to Greenpeace in support of its mission to use non-violent creative action to pave the way towards a greener, more peaceful world.
