"The Death book was the second of five collaborative-themed art books that we produced, [and the] last two were published by Gestalt in Berlin. In order of books, the themes were Orange, Death, Boredom, Lavender, and Love Sour Love. Each artist that contributed received a copy, and the remaining copies were sold to cover production. Each book had a different sized edition ranging from 20 to 80. Death was released about a few days before September 11th and there was a work of art in the book of a plane hitting two towers, which I always found a very strange coincidence. Each artist was given the theme and a set of colors, in this case, red, black, and white, and had to produce four pages. We helped with the production of some of the works [and] doing some of the printing, but most of the works were produced by the artists themselves. We tried to incorporate as many forms of art into the book as possible — music, writing, photography, graphic design, illustration, fine art, graffiti, and street art — as a time capsule of that moment in time. It was a true labor of love. All the books were put together by hand in a small, one-bedroom apartment in Hell's Kitchen." — FAILE

FAILE is the Brooklyn-based artistic collaboration between Patrick McNeil and Patrick Miller. Since its inception in 1999, FAILE has been known for a wide-ranging multimedia practice recognizable for its explorations of duality through a fragmented style of appropriation and collage.
