I began to think about what a two-dimensional painting would look like if I pulled it out into real space and looked at it physically as a sculpture. The reality of images, paintings, or physical sculptures, the reality of color in paintings, and whether a certain color plane is a trace drawn by the painter for emphasis or a shadow cast by physical light. In other words, it became a strange idea to think about what "reality" is.
