Los Angeles Modern Auctions (LAMA)

Born in Texas, Don Suggs lived and worked in Los Angeles from 1962 until his passing in 2019.  He received both his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees from the University of California, Los Angeles, where he would later teach from 1983 until 2014. His works varied greatly, though are often distinguished by an embrace of bright colors and geometric abstraction; Suggs enthusiastically and unabashedly embraced reference to a myriad of styles, from photorealism to Surrealism to Minimalism. David Pagel described Suggs as "a nooks-and-crannies artist, an astute observer with his nose to the ground and his mind fascinated by odd parallels and unexpected connections among disparate styles and systems of organizing." Suggs was the first artist to be represented by L.A. Louver, where he had his first solo exhibition in 1977. Works by Suggs are included in permanent collections including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the University of California, Los Angeles, among others.
