Carved signature to reverse ‘W. MARUYAMA’. Sold with original invoice signed by the artist and dated June 11, 1989. Two-part cabinet, each part having one adjustable shelf; the lower section with three small drawers.

Japanese-American furniture maker, artist, and educator Wendy Maruyama has been creating for more than 40 years. Maruyama was one of the first two women to receive a Masters of Fine Arts in Furniture Design at the Rochester Institute of Technology, New York. Her designs combine influences from her Japanese heritage with her own unique vision, and can be found in the collections of Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C., the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Museum of Craft and Design in San Francisco, the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, Massachusetts, and more.
