MORE INFORMATION:

Usually these unique prints were developed from an early group of trial proofs that had been set aside and were rediscovered by the artist at a later visit to the workshop. This is the case with the five proofs of Solarium that Universal Limited Art Editions (ULAE) saved for her. On May 1, 1974, Frankenthaler hand colored five unsigned trial proofs of the blue key stone and ULAE released them the same year as Solarium Plus Color Variations.
