MORE INFORMATION:

In 1948, de Swart was introduced to Suzette Van Cleef of Van Cleef & Arpels, who asked him to produce perfume bottles out of acrylic for her Swiss clientele. However, no plastic had, as yet, been developed that would not react with the alcohol content of the perfume. The project was shelved, but the experience had inspired de Swart to create a group of carved sculptures that would encapsulate the chemical reactions.
