Founder and Director of Los Angeles Modern Auctions (LAMA), Peter Loughrey, is thrilled to present such a strong showing of California artists and designers. “Over twenty-five years, LAMA has turned into a global marketplace. This auction is particularly special as it marks a quarter century. It is only fitting to feature a robust line-up of California artists and designers who led the way to make the West Coast and LAMA the art market powerhouses both are today.”

When LAMA first opened its doors, the aesthetic focus was blending modern design and fine art, and this milestone auction will continue this legacy.  The 25th Anniversary Auction will offer a selection of modern design classics by designers such as Charles & Ray Eames, Pablo Picasso, Poul Kjaerholm, Gio Ponti, and Fernando & Humberto Campana. Further highlights include handmade works by George Nakashima, Gertrud & Otto Natzler, and Sam Maloof.

“My first auction on October 10, 1992 auction realized $87,228, and the average lot sold for $800. Today LAMA realizes $11M annually, with several lots having a low estimate much higher than the total of that entire first auction,” noted Loughrey. “LAMA has grown along with the markets of the designers we sold in 1992. Designs by Eames, Saarinen, Gehry, and Frank Lloyd Wright were all represented in the first auction and are now standing alongside works by Ruscha, Hockney, Warhol, and Picasso.”

Additional auction highlights include works by Wayne Thiebaud, De Wain Valentine, Hassel Wendell Smith, Edward Hopper, and Michelangelo Pistoletto.
