The September 29, 2002 20th Century Furniture & Decorative Arts Auction featured 449 lots of furniture, sculpture, fine art, ceramics, and glass. As the Director of 20th Century Decorative Arts at Butterfields Los Angeles, Peter Loughrey curated a stunning arrangement of 20th century Modern art and design.
Design highlights included an assortment of Edward Wormley furniture, a Le Corbusier chaise lounge, “Barcelona Chairs” from Mies van der Rohe, a Frank Lloyd Wright armchair designed for the S.C. Johnson & Son Administration Building in 1936, a kaleidoscope of Evelyn Ackerman hand-woven wall hangings, and an important George Nakashima dining table.
Fine art highlights included Herbert Bayer lithographs, Alexander Calder wall hangings, paintings by Laddie John Dill, bronze busts by Bernard Meadows, and a silkscreen by Victor Vasarely.
