The 20th Century Decorative Arts Auction took place over two separate days: 20th Century Decorative Arts on October 26, 1997 and 20th Century Modern Objects on December 7, 1997. Both auctions were hosted by the Chait Gallery in Beverly Hills. These auctions featured a total of 508 lots of important designs by Charles & Ray Eames, George Nelson, Hans Wegner, Gretta Grossman, Harry Bertoia, Paul Frankl, Richard Neutra, and Edward Wormley.
Notable lots included a seven piece suite by Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen (Lot 145 est. $18,000 – 20,000) that realized $35,200, a George Nelson “Executive” desk (Lot 115 est. $3,500 – 5,500) that brought in $9,350, an Edward Wormley settee and sofa with pair of end tables (Lots 146, 147, and 148 est. $2,700 – 3,500) that realized a total of $3,465, and a Bruno Mathsson daybed with original canvas webbing (Lot 156 est. $6,000 – 7,000) that realized $5,550.
