The October 24, 1999 20th Century Decorative Arts Auction featured 416 lots of modern furniture, sculpture, decorative arts, and design. Featuring property from the collection of Michael and Gabrielle Boyd, San Francisco, the auction was held at LAMA’s Beverly Boulevard gallery space.

Comprised of six rectangular varnished wood shelves, eight painted “U” shaped sheet metal shelf supports, and three polychrome lacquered “diamond point” aluminum sliding doors with wood handles, the cover lot, a Charlotte Perriand for Jean Prouve Atelier custom wall-mounted “Cloud” shelving unit (Lot 335 est. $20,000 – 30,000), realized $31,625. Two George Nakashima lounge chairs with free form right arms (Lots 171 and 172 est. $3,000 – 5,000 each) both realized $4,025.

Additionally, a brass chandelier with flower-shaped reflectors by Finnish designer Paavo Tynel (Lot 312 est. $3,000 – 5,000) realized $10,062.50, a George Nelson “Marshmallow” sofa (Lot 254 est. $10,000 – 12,000) brought in $10,637.50, and a custom seating unit designed by Richard Neutra for the reception area in his Silverlake office (Lot 276 est. $16,000 – 18,000) was offered.
