The May 21, 2000 Modern Art & Design Auction featured property from the estate of Rudi Gernreich and property from the collection of Chiat/Day, New York. Held at LAMA’s Beverly Boulevard gallery space, the auction featured 423 lots of paintings, prints, sculpture, furniture, and other decorative objects from the worldâ€™s most renowned artists and architects.
Top lots included an important Harry Bertoia sculpture (Lot 311 est. $25,000 – 30,000, realized $40,250), a rare Charles and Ray Eames children’s chair (Lot 291 est. $9,000 – 12,000, realized $12,650), a rare and important Philip Johnson and Richard Kelly floor lamp (Lot 299 est. $20,000 – 25,000, realized $23,000), as well as designs by Ettore Sottsass, Gaetano Pesce, Pablo Picasso, Jacques Adnet, and Frank Gehry.
