The May 21, 2000 Modern Art & Design Auction featured property from the estate of Rudi Gernreich and property from the collection of Chiat/Day, New York. Held at LAMA’s Beverly Boulevard gallery space, the auction featured 423 lots of paintings, prints, sculpture, furniture, and other decorative objects from the world’s most renowned artists and architects.

Top lots included an important Harry Bertoia sculpture (Lot 311 est. $25,000 – 30,000, realized $40,250), a rare Charles and Ray Eames children’s chair (Lot 291 est. $9,000 – 12,000, realized $12,650), a rare and important Philip Johnson and Richard Kelly floor lamp (Lot 299 est. $20,000 – 25,000, realized $23,000), as well as designs by Ettore Sottsass, Gaetano Pesce, Pablo Picasso, Jacques Adnet, and Frank Gehry.
