The May 17, 1998 20th Century Decorative Arts Auction was held at the Chait Gallery in Beverly Hills. Featuring 393 lots of furniture, ceramics, lighting, jewelry, and glass, this auction presented great prices for some of the most coveted modern pieces.

The cover lot, a unique and important custom “Thin Edge” bed from the Kirkpatrick House in Kalamazoo, Michigan, designed by George Nelson in 1955 (Lot 206 est. $18,000 – 25,000), realized $19,800. An Ico & Louisa Parisi hall table (Lot 190 est. $2,800 – $3,500) realized $5,775, while a Frank Gehry “Easy Edges” lounge chair from the 1971 original series (Lot 205 est. $3,500 – 4,500) realized $4,950, and a T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings upholstered daybed (Lot 230 est. $600 – 800) brought in $4,125. Additional highlights included designs by Harry Bertoia, Paul T. Frankl, Charles & Ray Eames, and Eero Saarinen.
