The May 18, 1996 20th Century Decorative Arts Auction was held at the Eric Owen Moss “Samitaur” building in Culver City. Furniture, ceramics, sculpture, tapestry, jewelry, and fine art were all offered at this early LAMA auction. Featured was a rare Charles and Ray Eames ESU-421-C (Lot 121 est. $12,000 – 14,000, realized $11,000), a unique and important Peter Shire end table (Lot 190 est. $6,000 – 8,000, realized $4,400), and a number of mid-century California designs.

Other highlights included a rare and important pair of Richard Neutra upholstered benches designed for Neutra’s garden residence at the V.D.L. Research House in Silverlake (Lot 9 est. $5,000 – 6,000, realized $5,225), a Frederick Weinberg table clock (Lot 123 est. $800 – 900, realized $1,210), and an Alvar Aalto tea cart (Lot 54 est. $600 – 800, realized $1,375).
